(American, 1917-1984)

Painter and art critic Hubert Crehan studied at the California School of Fine Arts with Clyfford Still. He also attended art school at UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of Guadalajara, Mexico before moving to New York. While in New York, he was managing editor of Arts magazine and associate editor of Art News from 1957-1960 where he wrote several influential reviews about the direction of modern art. Later Crehan returned to California; He died in Berkeley in 1984.
